It's been a pretty good summer. I suppose I've been too busy doing stuff to write but that's a bit of a cop out. I've been on Instagram. Ah well.
Surfing has been pretty good. Two weeks ago up in NH was tres fun for sure. Scored my wave of the year on my Sam. It was a screamer of a right that I was able to draw out the bottom turn on. Serious pocket speed run. I've been mind surfing that one for a while now. I can see it in my sleep. I also nabbed a very clean fun knee high or so session at the local last week after work. There was noone there. Noone. It started off kind of lousy and then suddenly the wind backed off and it cleaned up. I put the Fineline pig through it's paces. Good times.
In music news, I finally got to see GBV and those old dudes put younger acts to shame. They can go and did for about 2.5 hours. Fantastic show.
Finally, I picked up a release from 2012, Ty Segall and White Fence - Hair. It hasn't left my car. There's way too much going on. George Harrison. Ty Segall's usual garagey mayhem. Bowie. In the words of Jack Black from High Fidelity, "It's....really fucking good." Dig it below.
Laziness.

The Mung Sessions
Saturday saw me up really early to meet up with a couple of the dudes down in RI. I was about to go in at the first spot, when Jay texted me and compelled me to move to the second. Ed showed while I was suiting up. I kind of wish I had just stayed where I was.
It was funky out there. I was on the HG at first and took off on a great right hander early in the sesh. That would be my best wave until my last wave of the day. I made a couple of legit drops on two different lefts and they both went the same way. Good drop, good turn...nothing. Not even a close out, they just flattened out. It was weird. Basically, it looked better than it was.
That coupled with a definite lack of etiquette in the water(I'm looking squarely at you, aggro dude in the blue wetsuit snaking people left and right and hooting for your own rides. You're wack.), the requisite Newport mung and the day left me hungry.
In terms of positives, I wore a 4/3 with boots, gloves and a squid lid and felt just fine. Looking forward to warmer days and water.

Sprung
I'm awake! Hibernation is just about done, although the past two days have been a bit chilly just to remind all of us in the Northeast that...this is the Northeast.
That was five months of winter, essentially. It was a bad one. I'm knocking on wood but it looks like we made it out the other side. Now if the water can warm up, I'll be all set.
2014 has already shown a lot more promise than 2013 did. Last Wednesday, I jammed to The Local after work(I jammed a little early to avoid traffic)and had an extremely fun session with the crew. Sadly, Tony took a shot to the ribs and had to depart early but Jay, Ed and I took full advantage of some punchy, decent-sized waves.
I wound up on the Sam and rode a lot of lefts. The board is big fun. You can whip it from the tail but I also did some quick hops to the middle off of the drop and rail carved it. That worked real well.
Looking forward to more.

Friday Freak Out(not really)
I've been busy.
In addition to parenting, work and all of the other associated trappings of adulthood, I'm also taking a graduate course this term. That's entertainment.
I got out there last week. Weird day for it. It wasn't overwhelmingly cold but it was cold and it was snowing. Surfing + snow = trippy. Even if you've done it before, it's still weird. Waves were alright. I played on the HG. Still fun. It's been frigid lately(single digits)so depending on how it all shakes down, I may start my February lay off early. Then again, Jay will probably question my manhood again and I'll find myself back out there. The good thing is that waves have been semi-consistent in the new year. After this past year's absolute head scratcher, I'm hopeful for good things in 2014.
I hauled out The La's again and recently picked up their BBC In Session album. Great stuff.
